There are no strict rules for exactly how to play within the Ineffable Project anymore than there are a set of rules for how to play an instrument or how to write a poem. The whole of the Ineffable Project, as per its name, transcends definition, and is expected to take as many different forms as imagination and creativity can conjure. 

       While the hope is to inspire joy, peace, co-operation, playfulness, creativity, and any other number of virtuous or positive states of being and outcomes, I suggest these things should be produced as a side effect of our participation in the Ineffable Project rather than as the goal itself. I envision the Ineffable Project as a format within which to experiment with creatively blending a variety of games, expressions,  art forms, dreams, holistic therapies, and ways of being in such a way as to produce a sense of liveliness, inspiration, liberation, spontaneity, co-operation, and innovation amongst spectators and players alike.

      The variance of simplicity or complexity within each player's iteration of their own additions to the Ineffable Project are expected and encouraged to flail wildly from  a simple twist added to already existing methods of expression, to creating and playing out full-scale theatrical games in which rules are made and broken on a whim as the play evolves. Players and participants are also encouraged to mix media and art forms together in new and interesting ways, so as the give spectators a bizarre and jolting sense of the sudden strangeness of life with which so many of us have taken for granted in our familiar routines of monotony.

         One who plays the Ineffable well will be one who masters the ability to break through the programming of Life, liberates others from the safety nets and boxes built around us to contain Life within, and intricately balances on the high-wire between genius and madness. The Ineffable is a curious tool for the curious and daring among us, a weapon of mass construction, an instrument of ultimate creativity in wisdom, an easy and sweet medicine for the masses. It is no blithe endeavor but a carefully considerate free-fall of faith into a dance of unconstrained grace, a cultivation of the deepest trust in the magics and miracles which move the entire universe beyond need of thought, planning, or forceful maneuvering.

       This is not to say you should have no plan or direction for how to undertake playing out your own version of the Ineffable, but that in whatever plans you make be highly encouraged and inspired toward entering that state of flow and non-judgment, void of criticism or expectation, in which your highest possible self is allowed to shine through.

         Truly, to play amongst and with and within the Ineffable is nothing new, for it is the natural state of a child to embody the Ineffable in all of their various forms of unhindered expression. What I propose is merely a refinement of this child-like state, of being able to return there with the full revelation of having been torn away from it through adulthood, of consciously and willfully choosing to resurrect this timeless and forgotten art of boundless play and creativity into New Life of eternal and infinite magnitude.

       While there are no rules for playing the Ineffable, I encourage you to establish your own boundaries and conditions to give form and guidance by which to channel the limitless potential of how this might show up and play out for you. I also remind our players that many practices, teachings of wisdom, and ways of playing already currently exist to help prime the mind and heart for jumping into the Ineffable and navigating its endless depths with courage and confidence.  I will provide access and links to many such resources across this site. I also will be sharing some of my own insights and inspiration on how to become more proficient in playing the Ineffable.

      Now, this is important: I advise caution and discernment for those who think playing the Ineffable means that anything goes and everything is acceptable. I strictly denounce and exclude all behaviors and ways of playing which would intentionally cause harm, insult, or distress to yourself or others, either immediately or eventually. While there are no rules for playing a guitar, there are a multitude of wrong ways to handle the instrument which would not be considered safe, constructive, or pleasant. The same goes for the Ineffable Project. All who participate must do so with the understanding that you are fully responsible for acting respectfully and kindly when engaging with this Project and that the general rules of human decency always apply to whatever endeavor you proceed with under this umbrella. While we all know that accidents and mistakes will inevitably happen in any type of vigorous and daring pursuit, we expect all of our players and participants to remain safe, courteous, and graceful. 

 

     The heart of the Ineffable is to playfully, compassionately, and enthusiastically bridge the gaps between individuals in the spirit of comradery and good times. We hope to reduce conflict and increase co-operation, to help each other to stop taking life, ourselves, and each other so deathly seriously, and begin anew in a light-hearted aspiration toward win-win scenarios where every person on God's good earth can enjoy the bounty and beauty of Life together. Plus... we get to have fun doing it!
